SISSA – Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (International School for Advanced Studies) is a research and further education institute. The school’s activities focus on three main areas: physics, mathematics and neurosciences. On top of these, there are also the initiatives of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory, dedicated to the relationship between science and society. The further education focuses on 12 PhD programmes and some post-graduate courses (Master’s). 35% of doctoral students and 50% of post-doctoral researchers at the school are from abroad; the official language is English.
SISSA offers a Master in Science Communication “Franco Prattico” and a Master in High Performance Computing in collaboration with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), as well as schools and workshops in various fields of advanced research. In collaboration with other Universities (Trento, Trieste, Udine, Polytechnic University of Turin), it offers Master’s Degree courses in physics, mathematics and neurosciences.

 

HOW TO GET THERE:
PEasily reachable by public transport (route 38), which connects the area with the city centre (only 4 km), or from the road leading to Opicina.

VISIT:
The visits to the buildings and laboratories of SISSA are planned only during specific events organised periodically, such as the open day. On the other hand, the school park is open to the public, where you can take walks and enjoy the marvellous view of Trieste and where there are some interactive stations and the “Scents trail” exhibition

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:
The SISSA FOR SCHOOLS programme annually welcomes about 2000 elementary, middle and high school students for guided tours that include meetings and initiatives of informal teaching and scientific animation in direct contact with students and researchers.
